Gretna Football Club are a football club currently playing in the Scottish Football League. Their current manager is former player Rowan Alexander.
History
They were founded in 1946 and have played in several football leagues. In 2002 they were elected to the Scottish Football League, at the third attempt, following the extinction of Airdrieonians F.C. because of financial problems, and they are currently playing in the Scottish Football League Division Three. Chairman Brian Fulton has recently invested heavily in the playing squad and it is said that they are currently paying the highest salaries outwith the SPL despite being in the third division. Although the population of Gretna is only 1200, the stadium is being expanded to SPL standards (6000 minimum capacity) - a clear sign of the club's ambitions.
One of the clubs best victories was in 1999 when they beat Glasgow Rangers 2-1 at Reydale park in a game arranged to raise money for the Lockerbie air disaster.
They won the Scottish Third Division championship on April 9 2005 after a 7-0 win over Stenhousemuir F.C..
