Motto:

HMS Beagle, pennant number H319, was a Bulldog-class hydrographic survey ship of the British Royal Navy.

She was originally to have been called HMS Barracouta but her name was changed to HMS Beagle in honour of the ship which carried Charles Darwin.

She was built to commercial, rather than military, ship standards. Her pennant number was originally A319 but this was changed in 1998 along with that of other survey ships to an H-prefix to emphasise that they were Hydrographic survey ships rather than naval auxilaries.

For other ships of this name see HMS Beagle.
