HMS Defiance (1783)

HMS Defiance was a 3rd rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, of 74 guns, built in 1783. Her crew mutinied three times, in 1794, 1797 (the Spithead mutiny) and 1798 (the rising of the United Irishmen). She fought at Copenhagen and Trafalgar, where she captured the Spanish ship San Juan Nepomuceno . After serving as a prison ship, she was broken up in 1816.

See HMS Defiance for other ships of this name.
