Heberto Castillo was born in 1928 in Ixhuatlán de Madero , Veracruz state , Mexico. He was a co-founder of the Partido Mexicano de los Trabajadores (PMT) and later of the Partido Mexicano Socialista (PMS) and Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD). He studied Engineering at UNAM and eventually he invented the Tridilosa. He was from a young age a very active participant in Mexican politics, leading to imprisonment by the Mexican government in the infamous Lecumberri prision (now turned into Archivo General de la Nación ). Castillo was first among leading left wing politicians to express dismay at the dictatorial nature of Soviet-bloc governments. This started a movement towards a social democracy based left wing and away from a Moscow based left leaning opposition in Mexico. Crucially, in 1988 he voluntarily withdrew from the presidential race and threw his support behind the unified candidacy of Cuahutemoc Cardenas Solorzano . He died in 1997.
