Holmenkollen is a hilly area in the outskirts of Norway's capital Oslo (within the city's area proper). Along with Lillehammer, Holmenkollen serves as a national and World Cup status venue of Nordic skiing, including its famous, eponymous, ski jump arena, as well as venues for cross-country (XC) skiing, Nordic combined (XC skiing + ski jumping), and biathlon (XC skiing + rifle shooting). Holmenkollen was the host arena of the 1982 Nordic skiing World Championship, the 1999 Biathlon World Championship, and parts of the 2000 Biathlon World Championship.
