A hydrostatic skeleton is one in which the body's shape and/or function is maintained by an incompressible fluid such as blood or hemolymph. Hydrostatic skeletons are primarily found in soft-bodied invertebrates such as such as earthworms and jellyfish. A fluid-filled cavity is surrounded by muscle fibres, which can contract to change the shape of the cavity.
