Inoue Enryo

Inoue Enryo (井上円了, March 18, 1858 - June 6, 1919), founder of Toyo University (東洋大学), was a Japanese educator, philosopher and Buddhist.

Enryo was Japan's first scientific investigator of anomalous phenomenon. To enlighten his fellow countrymen, he authored a six-volume A Study of Yōkai (妖怪学). As a result, he was best known as Dr. Ghost (お化け博士) or Dr. Yōkai (妖怪博士).

It is worthy to note, that the Chinese version of The Study of Yōkai was translated by another famous Chinese educator and philosopher: Dr. Cai Yuanpei (蔡元培).
