Jamie Carragher

Jamie Carragher is an English International footballer, born 28 January 1978 in Bootle, Liverpool. He currently plays his club football at Liverpool FC, where he was taken on as a trainee youngster, and wears the number 23 shirt.

He moved from striker to centre back during his time at Everton, and is now a defender at Liverpool, and has the ability to play right, left, or centrally along the backline, or even in midfield. He had a promising career from the start of his career, being a regular in the England Under 21 team, winning a record 26 caps. Many football experts consider Carragher to be one of, if not the best, natural "out-and-out" defender in England, although there have been doubts about his effectiveness going forward. Jamie Carragher has the most first team appearances of any of the current Liverpool squad at over 300 games. As of September 2004, he had scored 2 first team goals.

Jamie Carragher has become a fans favourite for his determination, and "no-nonsense" style of defending. His passion and commitment to the club might be considered ironic by some, because as a boy he was a fan of Liverpool's fierce rivals, Everton FC. He has also had a number of England caps, and is regularly in the squad.
