Jiroft is a city in Iran. It is located in Kerman province, 230km south of Kerman. It is located 1375 Kilometers south of Tehran. Its population is 209,746.
Jiroft is located in a vast plain, surrounded by 2 rivers, Halil Rud, on the southern outskirts of the Bariz mountain chains. The weather is cold on the highland and warmer in the lowlands.
The remaining part of the old town of Jiroft (called Sabzwaran), whose establishment is attributed to antiquity, is located now only a Kilometer away from the current city.
The name Jiroft has recently exploded in archeological circles ever since Iran's Cultural Organization announced the discovery of a millenia old city buried near Jiroft. See article.
