John J. "Jack" DeGioia (b. 1957?) is the 48th and current President of Georgetown University. DeGioia graduated from Georgetown University in 1979 and continued working at the university after graduation in various administrative and faculty positions, including Provost, before rising to the presidency. He took a PhD in philosophy from Georgetown in 1995. Elevated to the Presidency in 2001, DeGioia is the first layperson to head a Jesuit university. Dr.DeGioia is known for reintroducing Georgetown University to the world stage, holding world conferences on microcredit programs, the AIDS pandemic, and other pressing issues at the University.
