John Y. Brown, Jr.

John Y. Brown Jr. (b. December 28, 1933), served as Governor of Kentucky from 1980 to 1984. Shortly after completing his term as Governor, he made an aborted bid for United States Senate. In 1987, he ran unsuccessfully for a second term as Governor, losing to Wallace G. Wilkinson . He is a former co-owner of Kentucky Fried Chicken, building the company into the world's largest fast food chain before selling the company in 1971. He was married to former Miss America and former CBS sportscaster Phyllis George from 1979 to 1998. His son, John Y. Brown III . served as Kentucky Secretary of State from 1996 to 2004.
