Julia Carson

Julia May Carson (born July 8 1938 as Julia May Porter), is an American politician. She has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1997, representing the 7th District of Indiana. (map)

Carson was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and was educated at both Martin University in Indianapolis and at Indiana University-Purdue University. Prior to entering the House, she was an office-bearer in the United Auto Workers, a staff assistant to Representative Andrew Jacobs, Jr. , and a member of the Indiana House of Representatives and the Indiana Senate . Carson is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus.
