Kandukuri Veeresalingam

Kandukuri Veeresalingam pantulu (1848-1919) was a reformer and is widely considered as the man who first brought renaissance in Telugu people and its literature. He has written the first drama and the first novel:Rajasekhara Charitra in Telugu. He has also written the first prose for women.

He fought to abolish child marriages and Kanyasulkam (a kind of dowry given by the groom to the bride's parents). He also worked hard to convince orthodox hindu reiligious heads about the re-marriage of widows. He arranged the first widow remarriage on December 11, 1881.
