Kyrgyzstani Som


The Kyrgyzstani Som (sometimes transliterated "Sum" or "Soum") is the currency of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia. There are note denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 Som. There are no coins. Note designs have famous historical Kyrgyz individuals on one side and famous buildings on the other.

The word Som means "pure" in Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Uigur, Uzbek as well as many other Turkic languages. The word implies pure gold. The Soviet ruble was called Som in Kazakh, Kyrgyz and Uzbek which are written on the back of the notes
