Lawrence Quincy Mumford

Lawrence Quincy Mumford (December 11, 1903August 15, 1982) was Librarian of Congress from 1954 to 1974.

Nominated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Mumford is the only librarian by academic training (B.S. in library science) to ever serve as Librarian of Congress. Mumford, a graduate of Columbia University, was director of the Cleveland Public Library and president of the American Library Association.
