La Sylphide is one of the world's best-known ballets. There have been three main versions:
- An original version, featuring Marie Taglion
- Perhaps the best known version, choreographed in 1836 by August Bournonville and, in his production, with music composed by Baron Herman Severin Løvenskiold . Bournonville's version was based on the libretto of the original.
- A reconstruction of the Taglioni version by Pierre Lacotte for the Paris Opera in 1972.
