Lai-Chau (Vietnamese: Lai Châu) is a province in northwest Vietnam.

  • Area: 7 365 square kilometres (almost twice the size of Rhode Island, United States of America).
  • Population: Approximately 230,000 people.
  • Major Ethnic Groups: Thai, Mong, Viet (Kinh), Giay , Dao.
  • Principle City: Phong Tho Town (Population c.55,000)
  • Districts: Phong Tho, Tam Duong, Muong Te, Sin Ho
  • Communes: Muong Lay district, Le Loi quarter of Lai Chau Town, Than Uyen.
  • Major Economic Resources: Forestry/timber products.
  • Annual Average Temperature: 23 degrees Celsius.
  • Annual Average Rainfall: 2.5 m.
