León, Guanajuato

León (formally: León de las Aldamas) is the most populous city in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. It was founded on 20 January 1576. The city of León is located at .

In 2003 the estimated population was about 1,068,000 people reaching up to 1,235,000 in the Metropolitan Area. León, once the second-most populous city in Mexico (now the sixth), was founded in 1576. Today, the city boasts of being "the leather capital" of Mexico. It produces large quantities of boots, belts, jackets, and other leather accessories to both the individual consumer and businesses. It is located roughly four hours by road from Mexico City
