History

The Peace of Cateau-Cambrésis, ending the Italian Wars, was agreed there on April 2-3, 1559.

Miscellaneous

Le Cateau-Cambrésis was the birthplace of the painter Henri Matisse (1869-1954). The Musée Départemental Henri Matisse installed in the Palais Fénelon boasts the second largest collection of Matisse works in France.
