The original is considered one the great works of French literture. Various English translations are available and are very popular. The Lost Domain was one title used; usually the title is now left untranslated.

Le Grand Meaulnes was featured on the BBC Radio 4 programme "A Book at Bedtime", recorded circa 1980 and repeated circa 1999.
