League of Cambrai

The League of Cambrai was a league against Venice formed in 1508 under the leadership of Pope Julius II. It included, besides the Pope, Louis XII of France, Emperor Maximilian I, and Ferdinand of Aragon. The League fought a war with Venice between 1508 and 1510. Generally, the League was successful: the only major engagement, the Battle of Agnadello (1509), was a French victory.

The League began to come apart in 1510 when Ferdinand and the Pope switched sides, viewing Louis as now a greater threat than Venice. The split led to the formation of the Holy League.
