Leeds Metropolitan University

Leeds Metropolitan University is a University with campuses in Leeds and Harrogate, Yorkshire. It came into existence as a chartered university in 1992; prior to this date it was known as Leeds Polytechnic. In 1996 a merger with Harrogate College established its Harrogate campus.

Its Leeds campuses comprise a number of buildings in the city centre called the 'City Quarter' and a large site in Beckett's Park in the suburbs known as the 'Headingley Campus'

Professor Simon Lee is the Vice-Chancellor of the university and Leslie Silver OBE, the former Leeds United chairman is the Chancellor. The university recently opened a multi-million pound Learning Centre building named in honour of the Chancellor.

In 2004 the university announced that it would not charge the full rate of £3000 per year for tuition fees from September 2006, unlike most other universities in the country. Recently it has established closer links with Bradford College in Bradford and intends to validate some of its higher education courses.
