  • On May 8, 2001, Johnson strikes out 20 Reds in Arizona's 4-3 win over Cincinnati in 11 innings. He gets all 20 in his nine innings of work, but does not tie Clemens and Wood's record since the contest goes into extra frames. The Reds score two in the top of the 11th, but the Diamondbacks come back with 3, scoring the winning run on a bases loaded walk by reliever Danny Graves. - Resource: Baseball Library [1]
  • The record for most strikeouts in a nine-inning game by a minor league pitcher was set by Ron Necciai, who struck out 27 batters in a Class-D game between the Appalachian League Bristol Twins and the Welsh Miners (May 13, 1952). - Resource: Blue Ridge Country [2]
