Mandane of Media (c. 600–559 BC) was a Princess of Media and later Queen consort of Persia.
According to Herodotus, Mandane was born to Astyages , King of Media and Princess Aryenis of Lydia , daughter of Alyattes II. Her father was a son of Cyaxares.
Shorty after her birth Cyaxares reportedly had a strange dream that his newborn daughter urinated so much that Asia would flood. He consulted the magi who gave him a secret but disturbing explanation of the dream.
Mandane eventually reached the age of marriage. Cyaxares chose not to marry her to a Mede but to his vassal Cambyses I of Anshan, "a man of good family and quiet habits". He reportedly considered his new son-in-law to pose no threat to the Medean throne.
Mandane would however give birth to Cyrus II of Persia who would grow up to depose his maternal grandfather.
