Maria Devi Christos

Maria Devi Christos (born Maria Tsvigun (Мария Цвигун) in 1960 in Donetsk) was a leader of an apocalyptic sect in the Former Soviet Union. Calling itself the "Great White Brotherhood", this group had followers in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus.

Christos was married to Yuoann Svami (Yury Krivonov), the sect's founder.

Christos predicted the end of the world would occur on November 24, 1993. On November 10, about sixty sect members broke into the Saint Sophia Cathedral . The police arrived as they were vandalizing the Cathedral. After a fight in which several people on both sides were hurt, the "white brothers" were arrested.

Christos was sentenced to four years in prison for her role in the break-in and brawl.
