Marquis de Vallado


The title Marquis de Vallado is a Spanish title bestowed upon Humphrey Walrond on August 5, 1653 by King Philip IV of Spain.

Humphrey Walrond was a distinguished Royalist commander, and subsequent Governor of Barbados. During the Commonwealth under Oliver Cromwell, and with Barbados seceding from England as part of her overseas territories, Walrond became President of Barbados (1660-1662). Along with the Marquisate he was also created Conde de Parama and Conde de Valderonda, as well as a Grandee of the 1st Class.

  • 1st Marquis, Humphrey Walrond, married Elizabeth Napier
  • 2nd Marquis, George Walrond (d.1688), son of the above, married Frances Coryton (d.1665)
  • 3rd Marquis, Theodore Walrond, (d.1706), son of the above, married Elizabeth Smith
  • 4th Marquis, Theodore Walrond, (d.1748), son of the above, married Elizabeth Wills
  • 5th Marquis, Maine Swete Walrond (1725-1790), son of the above, married, 1748, Sarah Lyons (1731-1764)
  • 6th Marquis, Joseph Lyons Walrond (1752-1815), son of the above, married, 1797, Caroline Codrington (d.1833)
  • 7th Marquis, Lyons Walrond (1800-1819), son of the above
  • 8th Marquis, Bethell Walrond (1802-1876), brother of the above, married, 1829, Lady Janet St. Clair-Erskine (1800-1880), dau. of 2nd Earl of Rosslyn
  • 9th Marquis, Henry Walrond (1841-1917), son of the above, married, 1861, Caroline Maud Clark (d.1915)
  • 10th Marquis, Henry Humphrey Walrond (1862-1940)
