Marszalek sejmu

Marszałek sejmu (Sejm Marshal) is the title of the Speaker (chair) of Sejm the lower house of Polish parliament since the 15th century.

In Galicia since 1861, chairman of the "National Sejm of Galicia", with the seat in Lwów, he bear the title "Marszałek krajowy" (National Marshal). In Kingdom of Poland from 1916 until 1918, chairman of the Council of State. In the Second Polish Republic chairman of the Sejm, elected amongst the Deputies for the period of the Sejm cadency. Until 1935 the substitute of the President of Poland.

Todays chairman of the Presidium of the Sejm (Prezydium Sejmu) and Convention of the Seniors (Konwent Seniorów). He watch the progress of the work of the Sejm, he control Proceedings Sessions of the Sejm, he convene and lead the Proceedings of the Convention of the Seniors and the Presidium of the House. He appoint the chief of the chambers (of the Sejm and of the Senat), since 1989 the substitute of the President of Poland in case of vacancy of that office.
