Mellon Institute of Industrial Research

The Mellon Institute of Industrial Research, founded in 1913, merged with the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1968 to form Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center is also housed within the Mellon Institute.

The Mellon Institute building, dedicated in 1937, is a marvel of neo-classical architecture and elegant construction, with its signature monolithic limestone columns (the largest monolithic columns in the world).
