Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence

Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence is a 1983 movie starring David Bowie, Tom Conti, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Takeshi Kitano. It is based on the World War II experiences of the writer, Laurens van der Post. It deals with the prisoner of war camps, and the tense relations between the captors and the captives, including the strange sexual tension between Bowie and Sakamoto's characters, as they find meeting points among the chaos, and the simpler relationship between Kitano and Conti as they seek to understand each other's culture.
