The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools is a voluntary, peer based, non-profit association dedicated to the educational excellence and improvement through peer evaluation and accreditation. They are recognized as a leader in quality assurance and improvement in higher education. They are one of six regional accrediting organizations recognized by the United States Department of Education.
The Commission supports it members in their quest for excellence, and provides assurance to the general public that accredited member institutions meet its standards. The Commission achieves its purposes through assessment, peer evaluation, consultation, information gathering and sharing, cooperation, and appropriate educational activities. The Commission is committed to the principles of cooperation, flexibility, openness, and responsiveness to the needs of society and the higher education community. [1]
Recent Events
Recently, the Association has started accrediting non-US schools outside of the USA, who seek accreditation so their credits are recognized within the United States. Examples are Athabasca University in Canada and Open University in the United Kingdom.
