Nate Berkus

Nate Berkus (1971- ) is an American interior designer and decorator. He runs an interior design firm in Chicago, Nate Berkus Associates, and has been a regular guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, on which he offers design advice to viewers.

In December 2004 Berkus and his romantic partner, photographer Fernando Bengoechea, were vacationing at a beach resort in Sri Lanka when the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami hit. While Berkus managed to survive, Bengoechea was swept into the sea and is presumed dead.

Berkus appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show on January 17, 2005 in order to talk about his ordeal and the loss of Bengoechea.

Berkus was born in Southern California but grew up mainly in suburban Minneapolis.
