Nunavut (electoral district)

Nunavut is the name of the only federal electoral district in Nunavut, Canada. Its population is 26,745. (2001). It was previously known as Nunatsiaq.

Nunavut is the largest electoral district in the Western and Northern hemispheres. The only larger electoral district in the world is Kalgoorlie , Western Australia.

Languages: 26.0% English, 1.5% French, 70.8% Other, 1.7% Multiple languages

History

The electoral district was created in 1976 when the district of Northwest Territories was broken into two. It became the riding of Nunavut in 1996.
