The Order of Saint George (Орден Святого Георгия in Russian, or Orden Svyatogo Georgiya) was introduced by Catherine the Great on November 26, 1769. It was awarded for excellency in combat. It had to be worn in a special way in accordance with its class: 1st Class - a star and a cross on a ribbon; 2nd Class - a star and a cross around the neck; 3rd Class - a cross around the neck; 4th Class - a cross in a buttonhole.
