Polo (mint)

Polo is a brand of ring-shaped sweet, manufactured in the United Kingdom since 1948. Originally only available in peppermint flavour, variants now include spearmint and lemon sweets in the standard shape and size, and larger strawberry, apple and blackcurrant boiled sweets . In 2004, Nestlé were making around 38 million Polos each day - meaning that 140 were consumed every second.

The company has tried to register the sweet's shape, without the word Polo embossed on it, as a trademark; but on 26 July 2004 Nestlé lost its appeal against an earlier High Court rejection of this proposal.
