Porto Seguro (pop. 95,721) is the original landing site for Pedro Álvares Cabral and is located in the Brazilian state of Bahia. It was the busiest port of the developing Portuguese colonies from 1500 into the early 1800s.

An international airport was completed in 1993, and today Porto Seguro is a tourist destination known for busy nightlife. The region is also noted for its many attractive beaches.

Tourism is spurring ongoing and highly visible growth in Porto Seguro. One suburb on the southern bank of the Buranhem River, Arraial d'Ajuda, has grown from approximately 900 people in 1990 to 11,411 in 2005.
