Rheinzabern

Rheinzabern

Rheinzabern is a rather small town in the south-east of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany near River Rhine. Currently, Rheinzabern, that belongs to the "Landkreis Germersheim" (District of Germersheim) has approx. 4500 inhabitants living on an area of 12,75 square kilometres.

Rhenanae Tabernae

Founded some 1950 years ago as "Rhenanae Tabernae" along one of their roads by the Romans, it is famous for its Samian ware production and past. Remnants of the production are still visible. Moreover, the local museum is dedicated to Pottery and Roman culture. The Latin term "Rhenanae Tabernae" does literally mean "tavern" and "Rhine". Hence Rheinzabern was founded to be a place to rest for travellers on Roman roads.
