Riomaggiore, situated in a small valley in the Liguria region of Italy, is the first Cinque Terre Village one meets coming from La Spezia. The town, dating from the late 12th century, is known for its historic character and its white wine, produced by the town's vineyards. Riomaggiore is in the Riviera di Levante region and has shoreline on the Mediterranean's Gulf of Genoa , with a small beach and a wharf framed by tower houses. Riomaggiore has essentially one central meeting place, Bar Centrale, where many of the locals meet and tourists visit.
The Via dell' Amore is a path connecting Riomaggiore to Manarola . This tunnel of love that runs between the two cities is covered with a decorative mural.
Riomaggiore is the most southern town of the five Cinque Terres, all connected by a trail which has recently been declared a national park.
