The San Antonio Rampage are the American Hockey League affiliate of the Florida Panthers, based in San Antonio, Texas. The team plays their home games at the SBC Center, which is also the home of the NBA's San Antonio Spurs and the WNBA's San Antonio Silver Stars. The team's logo ties together the team's partners, Black for the Spurs, and blue for the Panthers. The bull is a direct reference to the annual San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo , an annual event that occurs at the SBC Center.

The team's arrival in the Alamo City was not without controversy however. The story goes back as far as 2000 when the ground was broken for the SBC Center right next door to the Freeman Coliseum , which was occupied by the Central Hockey League's San Antonio Iguanas . The building was built primarily for the Spurs, however the team also envisioned bringing a hockey team into the building. Unfortunately, a falling out between the Spurs and the Iguanas forced the Spurs to look elsewhere for hockey. Partnering up with the Florida Panthers, the Spurs succesfully brought the AHL to San Antonio. The Iguanas, unable to compete and unable to find a suitable home after their lease at the Coliseum expired, folded. The team was initially unveiled as the "Stampede" with the current logo sporting "STAMPEDE" in place of "RAMPAGE". The desicion was made a few days later to switch to "Rampage".
