Saved!

Saved! is a 2004 comedy film written by Brian Dannelly and Michael Urban , and directed by Dannelly. It stars Jena Malone, Mandy Moore, Macaulay Culkin, Patrick Fugit , Martin Donovan , and Mary-Louise Parker. It was filmed and located in suburban Baltimore, Maryland.

The movie's plot revolves around Mary (Malone), a senior at a Pentecostal high school in Baltimore, Maryland, who becomes pregnant because she believes Jesus wants her to have sex with her boyfriend to help save him from homosexuality. She successfully hides the pregnancy from everyone but begins to question Christianity and everything she has been taught to believe is true.

The film strongly mocks the idiosyncrasies of born-again evangelist Christians, but at its core does not actually criticize Chrisitianity. It does, however, use deadpan parody of things such as Christian rock music to criticize those who use religion as a grounds to ostracize or harass those who do not fit into the evangelical Christian ideal. The film seeks to point out the alleged hypocrisy of such an act.

The movie has generated some controversy due to perceived anti-Christianity, which those behind the film strongly deny.
