Second Battle of Ushant

The Second Battle of Ushant was a naval battle fought between the French and British fleets near Ushant on 12 December 1781 during the American Revolutionary War.

A French convoy sailed from Brest on 10 December, protected by a fleet of 21 ships of the line commanded by Comte de Guichen. The British fleet of 18 ships, commanded by Rear Admiral Richard Kempenfelt in HMS Victory, intercepted the convoy on 12 December and captured 15 merchant ships. The French were dispersed in a gale and forced to return to port.
