Spam typically refers to any of the following:

• SPAM - a brand of canned meat sold by Hormel
• Spam (Monty Python), a comedy sketch involving this meat, which in turn gave rise to the phrase:
• Spam (electronic) - unsolicited bulk electronic messages, such as e-mail spam.
• Pointless, subjectless posting on a bulletin board forum.

Other uses of the term include:

• A character from the Tolkien parody Bored of the Rings.
• Any of a number of fanzines and magazines of the same name such as Spam magazine, published in the mid-1990s in Houghton, Michigan.

This word has been voted by a British translation company in June 2004 as one of the ten English words that are hardest to translate.
