Main drag, Spanish Lookout
Spanish Lookout is a village in the Cayo District of Belize. In 2000 Spanish Lookout had a population of 1,786 people.
Spanish Lookout is populated by a community of Mennonites. This community's outlook on life is less strict than other Mennonite groups, in that it allows its members to use machinery.
The citizens of this community speak a derivative of the German language; most also speak English and Spanish. It's largely a agricultural community it some lite industry, furniture making and prefab wood houses. It's unique in Belize because except for the palm trees one might think one was in a small town in the Southern United States.
There are two ways into Spanish Lookout. One requires the use of a ferry. The other is a bridge the minomites built after years of promises to build one by the government and one failed attempt. (Fell down about half way through construction)
