Spaten Brewery

Spaten Brewery is a Munich brewery now owned by Spaten-Löwenbräu-Gruppe. The name means 'spade' in German, and the symbol is a malt shovel.

Modern methods of producing lager were pioneered by Gabriel Sedlmayr the Younger, who perfected dark brown lagers at the Spaten Brewery in the 1830s.

They produce:

  • Ludwig Thomas Dunkel, a classic Munich dark beer
  • Spaten Hell
  • Spaten Pilsener

It also produces wheat beers under the Franziskaner brand.
