Stanislaw of Skarbimierz

Stanislaw of Skarbimierz (1360-1431) - from 1400 rector of Jagiellonian University in Cracow, Poland. The author of "Sermones sapientiales" (Kazania sapiencjalne) - consisting of 113 orations.

The sermons were the foundation of Polish political doctrine leading to the Nobles' Democracy or Commonwealth in Poland and Lithuania. Many of the ideas from this doctrine can be found in the works of Wawrzyniec Grzymala Goslicki that possibly influenced the 17th century Commonwealth of England and the Founding Fathers of the United States.

Together with Pawel Wlodkowic he is an author of Polish stance at Council of Constance pioneering ideas of modern human rights and international law. In sermon "About just war" he presented his theory of just war

The Kazania were influenced by the earlier works of Augustine of Hippo and Wincenty Kadlubek.
