Dangriga

(Redirected from Stann Creek Town)

Dangriga, formerly known as Stann Creek Town, is a town in the south of the nation of Belize, at the mouth of the river of Stann Creek on the Caribbean Sea. It is the capital of Belize's Stann Creek District. It was long the second largest population center in the country behind Belize City, but in recent years has been surpassed by Orange Walk Town. Dangriga has some 9,100 people.

Dangriga was first settled under the name "Stann Creek Town" as a trading and logging post in the late 17th century. The population is mostly a mixture of Garifuna, Creole, and Mestizo.
