Starlord

Starlord was a shortlived weekly British Science-Fiction comic published by IPC and edited by Pat Mills. Following the success of 2000 AD and with the fashion for Sci-Fi following the release of "Star Wars", Starlord's first issue was dated 13 May 1978. The weekly title had eight colour pages and was printed on a higher quality paper stock giving better reproduction of the artwork. As a result Starlord had a higher cover price than 2000 AD that contributed to its early end.

Like 2000 AD the title had a fictional editor 'Starlord' who also appeared in a regular strip in the comic. The comic launched the main characters of the ABC Warriors series and "Strontium Dog". Mostly the title split the weekly market and later that year it was merged with 2000 AD, the title's final issue dated 7 October 1978.

Notable series:

  • "Strontium Dog" by John Wagner, Alan Grant, Carlos Esquerra and Ian Gibson.
  • "TimeQuake" by Jack Adrian told the story of James Blocker a 20th Century Tramp Steamer Captain who gets drawn into working for Time Control an agency that patrols attempts by criminals to use time travel to alter the time line.
