Stephen Tennant

Stephen Tennant (1906-1987) was a British aristocrat known for his decadent lifestyle. It has been said that he spent most of his life in bed.

Stephen Tennant was born in England. He was the son of Edward Priaulx Tennant, 1st Baron Glenconner , and Pamela, Lady Glenconner, who pampered Stephen from childhood. His elder brother, Edward, was killed in the First World War. In his twenties, Stephen became the lover of Siegfried Sassoon.

For most of his life, Tennant tried to start or finish a novel. Because he spent the last 17 years of his life in bed in his family manor at Wilsford, Wiltshire, his estate was ruined due to inattention. On his mother's side, Tennant was a cousin of Lord Alfred Douglas (1870-1945), Oscar Wilde's lover and a sonneteer.
