Steve Smith (born on August 21 1954 in Brockton, Massachusetts) is an American drummer. He played with the rock band Journey, and with various jazz musicians and groups including Mike Mainieri 's Steps Ahead and Wadada Leo Smith. His own jazz group is called Vital Information .
