Steven Michael Stone (born July 14, 1947 in Euclid, Ohio) is a former American Major League Baseball player and current sportscaster.
Stone was a starting pitcher for several teams from 1971-1981. His best year was undoubtedly 1980, when he went 25-7 for the Baltimore Orioles and won the Cy Young Award. Persistent arm trouble bothered him for much of his career, and he never equaled his 1980 success in any other season. He retired after a disappointing year with the Orioles in 1981. While the year was disappointing, his retirement might have had more to do with tendonitis in his right arm.
From 1983-2000 and 2003-2004, Stone was a color commentator for television broadcasts of the Chicago Cubs, teaming with Hall of Fame announcer Harry Caray and later with Caray's grandson Chip. Highly regarded as a broadcaster, Stone was controversially dismissed by the Cubs and WGN-TV following the 2004 season, due to on-air remarks he had made critical of the team's performance.
In early 2005 Stone was hired by Chicago radio station WSCR to host a weekly talk show, and by ESPN to work some of the network's baseball telecasts.
