Steven Caldwell, (born September 12 1980), was released by Newcastle United in 2004. He joined local rivals Sunderland A.F.C.

Caldwell is known for his whole hearted approach to the game and the solid partnership he has formed with Gary Breen.

He is a Scotland international, as is his younger brother Gary Caldwell who currently plays for Hibernian F.C..
